Unitherm Model 6000 Guarded Hot Plate

Thermal Conductivity Measuring System

Depending on the temperature range, a variety of sample sizes can be accommodated, however, each instrument is designed to test one fixed specimen size. The standard size is 300mm square; larger sizes can be supplied as custom units. All models are fully PC controlled using current Win- dows™ XP operating platform. Each unit is supplied with extensive operating and data reporting software. The user only needs to select the desired temperatures and the test proceeds unattended until completion. All testing parameters, such as thermal gradients, equilibration criteria, heating rates, etc. are user selectable either within or outside of the applicable standards to suit individual needs. Due to their ease of operation, currently single sided (one sample) designs are supplied. Double sided (two sample) configurations are only available as custom units. In terms of performance, there is no discernable difference between the two. -175°C to 550°C, in several ranges ASTM C177 and ISO 8302 Standards EN-12667 European Standard Fully automated user friendly operation Research quality models Highest attainable accuracy Premium performance (metrology standards laboratory) models Guarded Hot Plate instruments are used to ac-curately determine the thermal conductivity () of insulating (low conductivity) materials, such as fibrous mats, fiber boards, insulating foams, mineral fiber mats, wood and cellulose products, honeycomb structures, polymers, rubbers, com-posites, concretes, cement boards, glasses, etc. It is a primary measuring instrument, and it generates absolute data because it does not require calibration with a certified reference ma-terial. Reference materials are only used for pe-riodic verification of proper operation. Guarded Hot Plates are employed in the most demanding R&D and QA applications where faster instruments (such as guarded heat flow meters) do not suffice, or do not possess the broad operating range desired.
