Melk
Austria
The Melk power station was built as a multipurpose project taking into account all economic and ecological factors.
With the famous monastery of Melk, Lower Austria, in the background, the power station blends into the landscape in an environmentally friendly way. The backwater area extends over a length of 22.5 km from the barrage to the Ybbs-Persenbeug
power station. For reasons of countryside conservation the generated electricity is fed into to the high voltage grid via an underground cable. The powerhouse on the right bank of the river includes nine horizontal shaft Bulbturbine / Generator sets including main transformers, excitation, control and protection systems and cabling.
