DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION DESIGN The new POWER TECHNOLOGY (PT) pneumatic rack and pinion actuator has been designed, developed and tested by AIR TORQUE incorporating all of the latest technology, materials, and protective coatings available on the market today. The affect of AIR TORQUE’S intense product and market research has resulted in an extremely high quality actuator having all of the following characteristics: • Reliability • High performance • A rational and extensive product range that permits the best sizing selection at the lowest cost • Innovations and patented solutions for a universal drive shaft and a multifunction position indicator accepting a wide range of accessories • Full compliance with latest worldwide specifications • A wide selection of internal and external protective surface treatments utilizing recently developed technology specifically designed to prevent deterioration due to wear and environmental conditions • Compact and aesthetically modern style without any external cavities where-in avoiding collection points for corrosion to begin CONSTRUCTION 1. Extruded aluminum body with both internal and external corrosion protections having a honed cylinder surface for longer life and a lower coefficient of friction. 2. Dual piston rack and pinion design for compact construction, symmetric mounting position, high-cycle life and fast operation. Reverse rotation can be accomplished in the field by simply inverting the pistons. 3. Two independent external travel stop adjustments permit easy and precise adjustment of +/- 4° in both directions. This adjustment may be made in either the open or closed position and provides for accurate valve alignment. 4. Anti-blowout patented drive shaft having a UNIVERSAL DOUBLE SQUARE design permits easy adaptation to any valve and allows for a lower and more flexible inventory. 5. A single compact design utilizing identical body and end caps for both double acting and spring return models. This feature reduces inventory and allows field conversion, by adding or removing modular spring cartridges. 6. Multifunctional position indicator for visual position indication, and a direct, easy, economical way to mount popular sensors. 10. Electroless nickel-plated blowout resistant, bearing guided, one-piece pinion shaft for improved safety and maximum cycle life. 8. Modular preloaded spring cartridges designed with coated springs for simple range versatility, greater safety and corrosion resistance. 9. Fully machined teeth on piston racks and pinion shaft for accurate positioning, low backlash, and maximum engagement resulting in overall efficient operation. 7. Multiple bearings and guides on pistons and racks for precise operation, low friction, high cycle life and a blowout proof pinion shaft. RANGE OF OPTIONS, QUALITY MANUFACTURING, AND ACCESSORIES RANGE OF OPTIONS ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE A. The new POWER TECHNOLOGY (PT) actuator offers 6 different kinds of corrosion protections; A, B, C, D, E, and F. Please see table of available protections N° P04/03. B. Stainless steel 303 or 316 drive shafts are available on request for all sizes no matter the type of corrosion protection selected. C. For extremely high or low temperature applications all models may be equipped with FPM or Silicon O rings along with an AIR TORQUE tested and certified suitable lubricant. D. 100% Adjustable travel stops E. Economical “lock out” capability in fully-open or fully closed position. F. Multifunction position indicator with available S.S. metal inserts providing for proximity contact points G. S.S. drive shaft cover with a Namur slot for high temperature application and manual override H. Other than the standard double square bottom drive shaft connection, we can supply a keyed drive connection, a flat head connection or a special personalized drive connection.
