The 2200 family of OEM Modular frequency syn- thesizers operates in the frequency range of 10MHz to 18.4 GHz and offers sub-microsecondfrequency switching speed and sub-microsecond level correction, coupled with superb spectral purity. With an installed base of more than a thou-sand units supporting hundreds of sub-microsec-ond switching and high spectral purity applica- tions, the 2200 family is a proven performer for adiverse range of stringent applications. Extensivework has been undertaken to provide superior reliability of the 2200 as a result of reducing com-ponent count and increasing automated produc-tion techniques.The 2200 is based on an iterative, modular directanalog architecture with a central reference gener- ator that synthesizes 50, 100, 150, 200 and 800 MHz signals from a 100 MHz referencederived by multiplying a 5 or 10 MHz reference oscillator manufacturers appropriately and improving far-outnoise by judicious filtering. All frequencies arederived in an iterative frequency generation archi- tecture. Frequencies are generated as a decade offrequency steps over an octave from 500 MHzinputs to the next stage. Final outputs are pro- duced by a scaling module which provides for dou-bling, dividing or heterodyning to achieve a rangeof 10 MHz to 2.3 GHz. Units which have extend- ed frequency ranges use an additional scaling module which doubles to 4.6 GHz, and then to18.4 GHz. The architecture also provides the addi-tional benefit of simplifying the user interface pro- gramming in Binary Coded Decimal (BCD). Naturally, a variety ofinterfaces are optionally provided, including IEEE-488 and a user-friendly keyboard.This unique, interactive, modular architecture also allows for easyconfigurations of OEM or specialized products. The 2200 provides all the performance of the sub-microsecond System Synthesizer and easy to use, incredibly clean,bench synthesizers. The 2200 is like two synthesizers in one; a microsecond switching computer controlled system synthesizer andan IEEE-488 programmable keyboard entry bench synthesizer withextensive sweep and synchronization capability.You can conveniently use the 2200 for system development with theconvenience of keyboard entry of frequency increments and sweeps,as well as IEEE-488 programming. With the flip of a switch, the 2200becomes a BCD programmable microsecond frequency switching synthesizer. Even if you do not need fast switching, the 2200 is one of the lowest phase noise 18 GHz synthesizers available.The 2200 provides programmable and keyboard controlled modula-tion of AM and FM and 1 µsec frequency switching up to 4 GHz. OEM Configuration Guide Aeroflex's modular architecture and iterative frequency plan makes itideally suited for custom OEM applications. Just two standard mod-ules make up a 10 MHz - 2.3 GHz, 100 MHz resolution OEM syn-thesizer with the same specifications as the standard family, needing only DC power and Frequency Reference.
