MIL-STD-1553 is a command/response, time-multiplexed, serial data bus with a 1 Mbit/sec data rate. The bus contains a bus controller and up to 31 remote terminals. Actel's Core1553 family of cores meet all requirements for dual-redundant bus operation.

As a leader in providing high reliability (HiRel) FPGA solutions, Actel has developed flexible MIL-STD-1553 bus controller (BC), remote terminal (RT) and monitor terminal (MT) cores for use with its devices in high reliability applications. Actel's MIL-STD-1553 solutions, when used with Actel radiation­tolerant (RadTolerant) devices, are the only true RadTolerant FPGA-based 1553 solutions available today. Additionally, all Core1553 products are state-machine designs that use less power than processor-based MIL-STD-1553 products.

Actel MIL-STD-1553 intellectual property products are a programmable logic alternative to a limited number of 1553 choices that are available today. They can be used in a variety of high reliability applications in which system redundancy is essential such as aircraft, spacecraft, military vehicles, and other severe environments. Core1553 products are fully verified by Actel and certified by Test Systems, Inc., an independent MIL-STD-1553B test house.
