eneral Re uirements
Like laser scanner-based systems, camera-based systems have certain necessary components. The modular camera system requires a method or devices to monitor the following:
■ Transport speed
■ Package detection
■ Package height detection
Transport speed can be monitored in one of three ways:
■ using an external tachometer attached to the transport,
■ a direct tach signal from the transport, or
■ the camera automatically generates its own internal tach signal. Note that to utilize this feature, the actual conveyor speed must be entered into the camera and must be held constant for this feature to function.
Package detection can be monitored in one of three ways:
■ a photoeye, or
■ a light curtain, which also provides the package height information needed to focus the camera, or
■ a dimensioning device (set to emulate a light curtain in camera tunnel applications),
When package height detection is accomplished via a light curtain, a resolution of 0.25 inch is required. Light curtain resolutions greater than 0.25 inches can degrade focus quality of an image.
