Residual Chlorine Monitor AW400

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The AW400 Residual Chlorine Monitor by ABB is designed for effective monitoring of residual chlorine in cooling, potable, and industrial water treatment processes. It supports up to three sensors for residual chlorine, pH, and ORP, reducing measurement costs. The system operates reagentlessly for pH levels below 7.5, and uses reagents for total chlorine measurement, allowing up to 60 days of unsupervised operation. The Vortex Cleaning system eliminates the need for electric motors by using corundum sand to clean electrodes.

Measurement Principle
The AW400 uses an amperometric cell with gold and copper electrodes. The presence of oxidizing agents like chlorine depolarizes the gold electrode, generating a current proportional to the agent's concentration. Temperature compensation is managed via a PT100 thermistor.

Applications
The AW400 is suitable for monitoring residual chlorine in drinking water, cooling water, disinfection baths, treated wastewater, and swimming pools. It is not recommended for use in meat and poultry disinfection baths, saltwater with high oil content, or processes with fibrous sediment.

Specifications
  • Measurement Range: 0 to 20 ppm for chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and ozone.
  • Accuracy: 2% or ±0.01 10ppb for unbuffered samples at pH <7.5.
  • Response Time: 90% in less than 90 seconds.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operates between -10°C to +50°C, with humidity up to 80% RH at 31°C.
  • Sample Flow: Continuous, 60 - 75 l/hr.

Maintenance
Annual replacement of O-rings and electrodes is recommended. Calibration can be single or two-point.

Installation Guidelines
Install away from direct sunlight, vibration, and electrical devices. Ensure minimal air bubbles and use appropriate tubing for sample delivery.

Benefits Summary
The AW400 offers reagentless operation, multiple sensor input capability, self-cleaning sensors, fast response time, and pressure-regulated sample flow. It supports PID control and field changeable configuration, requiring minimal sample consumption and providing automatic temperature compensation.

Ordering Information
Various configurations are available for different voltage requirements and sensor types, with accessories like reagent feeder assemblies for free and total chlorine.

Residual Chlorine Monitor AW400-2

Residual Chlorine Monitor AW400 SS/AW400 Issue 3 2 Introduction Residual chlorine is one of the most important measurements for the effective monitoring of cooling, potable and industrial water treatment processes. ABB's new AW400 Residual Chlorine Monitoring System incorporates the features our customers need to monitor and control residual chlorine levels accurately and affordably. The design enables users to either connect up to three residual chlorine monitoring sensors to the system or to combine pH, ORP and residual chlorine sensors; thus reducing the cost of each measurement considerably....
